          “Cante ‘Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own’ en el funeral de mi padre. Era un Viejo muy testarudo, Irlandés, de Dublín, de la parte norte de Dublín, muy cínico sobre el mundo y la gente que lo habita, ya sabes, pero muy encantador, y divertido.” (Bono)

          “Su idea principal era; ‘No sueñes – soñar es decepcionarse.’Ese era realmente lo que creo que era el consejo que me daba. No me lo decía así, con esas palabras, pero eso es lo que quería decir, y por supuesto esas es en verdad una receta para la megalomanía, ¿no?. Quiero decir que solo estuve siempre interesado en grandes ideas, y no tanto soñando sino llevando los sueños a la acción, haciendo las cosas que tienes en la cabeza se ha convertido en una cosa importante para mi.” (Bono)

          “La canción ‘Sometimes You Can’t Make it  on Your Own’, estaba dedicada a él, y , es un retrato suyo – era un gran cantante, un tenor, un obrero de Dublín que escuchaba opera y acompañaba la música del estero con las agujas de ganchillo de mi madre. Simplemente amaba la opera, igual que las canciones. Yo llegaba a alguna de esas grandes notas de los grandes tenores que le hubieran encantado. Creo que le hubieran encantado, eso espero.” (Bono)
